Immanuel away from home

Church Weekend: Each year we go to Dalesdown (near Horsham) for our annual church weekend.  We enjoy spending time together in a relaxed way, with time for teaching and getting to know each other better.  We are already planning our next  church weekend in May 2025.

New Wine: For many years, Immanuel leaders have taken a large group  of members  to the New Wine summer gathering, which in 2024 returned to Shepton Mallet  in Somerset.  More about New Wine

What’s different about Immanuel?

We’re a Bishop’s Mission Initiative: In 2011 the Bishop of Chichester appointed Immanuel as a Bishop’s Mission with the task of working with other churches across Chichester as a network church. We meet at Bishop Luffa School within the parish of St Wilfrid’s, but we are not limited to working within those parish boundaries. The BMO (Bishop’s Mission Order) allows us to be more flexible and informal in our services, although still broadly following the Anglican tradition.

We’re not a parish church: Immanuel Church is unusual for an Anglican church – it does not have church wardens or a PCC (Parochial Church Council) as parish churches do.  As a registered charity and company, Immanuel has a Leadership Team and a Board of Trustees, who are elected by the members, and work closely with the ministers.
