Safer Church

Safeguarding

At Immanuel we agree that “Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility” and we are keen to make our church safer for everyone – children and adults. We have pledged to follow the Church of England’s Safeguarding guidance.

May 2021: Safeguarding review

Chichester Diocese Safeguarding team are encouraging any victim or survivor of church-related abuse to share their experience, as part of the review. For more details, please view this short video below, and click here to visit the Survivors’ Network webpage.

Training:

One of the key areas is Safeguarding training – this is essential for everyone involved in our activities with children and adults. It is also helpful for anyone taking part in church life.

When we add together all those involved in ministry, and pastoral work (such as life group leaders, prayer ministry team or children and young people’s teams) and wider areas (such as Welcome and Hospitality teams), that is more than half our church members!

In fact we welcome everyone in the church taking at least the introductory course. We are keen to make it easy to join in with the training.

Not just about training…
Working for a Safer Church for everyone is about many different things – but it’s all in line with the Gospel. We’re following Chicester Diocese Safeguarding team‘s guidance.
