Eco Church

Making a Difference

As a church and as individuals, many of us have become increasingly concerned about the damage being done to our natural environment by climate change. We have started to explore how well we are caring for God’s creation in our church life – and work out how to do it better – and then make those changes wherever we can.

Let’s plant some trees! An idea which started before the lockdown came into being in the spring 2022, when twenty of us planted over 100 seedling trees to form a hedgerow along the River Lavant.

We have joined over 4000 churches in England and Wales, who have signed up with the Eco Church scheme for churches “who want to demonstrate that the gospel is good news for God’s earth”.  We are using Eco Church’s online survey, which covers: Worship and teaching,  Community and global engagement, and Lifestyle.

We also signed up to Creation Care, run by St Pauls, Dorking. They suggest ways for individuals and families to look at their lifestyle (the Monday to Saturday bit, as well as Sundays). They provide  some very practical ideas to try out in their monthly newsletter and on Facebook.

Dipping and Digging

We have started to find out more about this huge area of climate change and caring for creation – and what people are already doing about it.  Here are some resources to dip into – or dig into – as you wish!

Dipping – short explainer videos, links to organisations etc

Digging – longer videos, reports to download etc

We are just starting on this journey – and we need more people who care about our world to get involved. We already have some great ideas! If you are interested, please get in touch with Jill Riley on green@immanuelchichester.com
